HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 10 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at the University of Mary Washington in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon, January 18, at 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 12-3 overall following a 69-59 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road win at Washington and Lee University on Jan. 15 in Lexington. The Eagles are 7-8 overall after a 72-71 road loss at Dickinson College on Jan. 13 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM with pregame at 2:30 p.m., and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the UMW Network.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 95-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.699) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 20.7 points (31 3FGs, 85% FTs), 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 11.7 points (55% FGs), 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 9.6 points (27 3FGs-44%) and 2.3 rebounds. Other top contributors include junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (7.8 points, 15 3FGs, 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists), freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (6.7 points, 3.7 rebounds), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.3 points, 5.9 rebounds), freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.7 points, 74% FGs, 2.5 rebounds) and senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (5.7 points, 15 3FGs). H-SC shoots 46% (429-924) from the field, including 32% (111-349) on three-point field goals, and 72% (231-323) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.0 points, and yielding 70.2 points, for a +9.8 scoring margin.

Scouting Mary Washington
UMW is coached by 11th-year head coach Marcus Kahn and has been led by sophomore forward Jay Randall (11.7 points, 60% FGs, 4.6 rebounds), freshman guard Kye Robinson (11.5 points, 18 3FGs, 4.7 rebounds) and graduate guard Zack Blue (10.5 points, 27 3FGs). The Eagles shoot 45% (378-842) from the field, including 34% (120-350) on three-pointers, and 68% (157-232) at the line. UMW is scoring 68.9 points, and yielding 62.3 points, for a +6.6 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC
leads the all-time series against UMW at 18-7, and has won 15 of the last 16 games played between the two schools, including a 70-59 home win last February 17, 2024 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The Eagles, however, are 6-5 against the Tigers at home, including a 79-66 win the last time H-SC visited Fredericksburg on November 22, 2022.

Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

is playing five of eight games this month away from home, and within a span of 18 days (Jan. 4-22). The Tigers are 36-20 (.643) on the road under Coach Kimbrough since 2019-20, including 5-1 this season and 2-1 this month.

Adam Brazil
has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 20.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 48% (106-223) from the field, including 33% (31-93) on three-pointers, and 85% (68-80) at the line. He has 13 double-figure scoring games, including three 30-point games among eight 20-point games, and scored a season and career-high 34 points vs. Randolph-Macon (11/13).

has began this season as he finished last season ... playing at a high level ... averaging 11.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 55% (64-116) from the field. He has 10 double-figure scoring games, including one 20-point game—a season and career-high 21 points vs. Roanoke (12/4).

Impact Transfers
Colin Radcliffe
and Hamilton Campbell have been impact transfers. Colin transferred from Division II Mount Olive (NC) and is averaging 9.6 points and 2.3 rebounds, while shooting 44% (47-106) from the field, including 44% (27-62) on three-pointers, and 77% (23-30) at the line. He scored a season and career-high 27 points at Swarthmore (PA) (11/9). Hamilton transferred from DII Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) and is averaging 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 33% (39-117) from the field, including 25% (15-61) on three-pointers, and 83% (24-29) at the line. He scored a season and career-high 22 points vs. Eastern (PA) (12/21).

Adam Brazil
is 13th in program history with 1,369 career points in 108 career games, and is tied for eighth with 336 career assists (Ryan Odom '96). He adds 132 career steals and 221 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92 is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two, 9th in week three, 7th in week four and eighth in week five, earned 359 points in this week's rankings. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville (13-1) is first this week with 620 points, including 21 first-place votes.

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat

has made at least one three-point field goal in 508 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,529 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Jan. 16, Turner was 305-182 at UCI (16-2 this season) ... Odom was 196-115 overall, including 37-18 at VCU (13-4  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 123-92 at Longwood (14-6 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
