No. 25 Hampden-Sydney Finishes Third At The Wynlakes Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The nationally-ranked No. 25 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a final-round score of 297 on Tuesday for a 36-hole team score of 584 (287-297) to finish third among 14 teams at the Wynlakes Invitational played at the Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama. Junior Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the Tigers with his two-under par 67-75--142 that tied for third individually among the 74 collegiate golfers.

Rubino posted two birdies and 12 pars during his second (final) round on the par 72, 7,033-yard layout. He was followed by junior Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (69-75--144, T-6th), who also earned a Top 10 finish in the event, along with freshman Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (75-71--146, T-13th), senior Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (76-76--152, T-29th) and junior John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (76-79--155, T-41st). Barnes had four birdies and 11 pars during his second round of one-under par 71 that tied for fourth-best on the final day. Lott had four birdies and nine pars, while Bishop contributed three birdies and 10 pars, and Hutcheson added one birdie and nine pars.

Rubino also tied for third among the tournament field in par 3 scoring (2.88, -1), tied for fifth in both par 5 scoring (4.63, -3) and birdies (8), and tied for ninth in par 4 scoring (4.10, +2). Lott tied for third in birdies (9) and tied for fifth in par 4 scoring (4.00, E). Barnes tied for third in both par 5 scoring (4.50, -4) and birdies (9), and tied for 18th in par 3 scoring (3.13, +1). Bishop tied for seventh in par 5 scoring (4.75, -2).

The tournament field featured three teams ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, including the No. 25 Tigers, and three others receiving votes in the poll. Tournament host and No. 13 Huntingdon (AL) College won the event with its five-under par 279-292--571, while Brett Viator of HC was the individual medalist at eight-under par 68-68--136.

H-SC will play again at the Cochran Collegiate on April 15-16 at the Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tennessee near Memphis.
