No. 21 Hampden-Sydney Tied For Sixth At The Cochran Collegiate

CORDOVA, Tenn. -- The nationally-ranked No. 21 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted rounds of 303 and 301 on Monday for a 36-hole team score of 604 to stand in a tie for sixth among 18 teams at the Cochran Collegiate being played at the Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tennessee located near Memphis. Freshman Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) is leading the Tigers with his three-over par 75-72--147 on the par 72, 7,037-yard layout that has him tied for sixth individually among the 90 collegiate golfers.

Barnes had a rare eagle during round two, driving the green on the 320-yard, par 4 ninth hole, before draining an 84-foot putt for the eagle two. He finished his first two rounds with one eagle, two birdies and 26 pars. Barnes is being followed by junior Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (71-78--149, T-15th), senior Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (79-75--154, T-41st) and junior John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (78-76--154, T-41st), along with junior Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (79-79--158, T-61st).

Rubino had nine birdies and 16 pars, including six birdies and eight pars during his impressive opening round of one-under par 71 that had him tied for first after 18 holes—he birdied four of five holes through his first six holes played on the day. Bishop and Hutcheson each posted two birdies and 23 pars, while Lott added two birdies and 21 pars.

The tournament field features seven teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men's Golf rankings, including the No. 21 Tigers, and five others among the top 41 overall. No. 8 Huntingdon (AL) College is leading the event with its 293-288--581, while HC's Stephen Baker (72-70) and Foster Wood (72-70) of tournament host Rhodes (TN) College are tied for first individually at 142.

H-SC will continue and completes its competition in the two-day, 54-hole event on Tuesday in Tennessee.
