Hampden-Sydney Ties For 12th At The Savannah Invitational | Tigers' B Golf Team Finishes 13th At The Port City Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted second- and third-round scores of 301 and 291 on Tuesday for a 54-hole team score of 879 (287-301-291) to move up two spots and finish in a tie for 12th among 19 teams at the Savannah Invitational played at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia. Junior Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the Tigers with his two-under par 70-75-69--214, tying for 13th individually among the strong tournament field of 95 collegiate golfers.

Rubino posted six birdies and nine pars during his impressive final round of three-under par 69 on the par 72, 6,851-yard layout. He was followed by junior John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (71-74-75--220, T-36th), senior Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (73-76-73--222, T-45th), along with freshmen Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (73-81-74--228, T-72nd) and Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (74-76-78--228, T-72nd). Hutcheson had three birdies and 10 pars during round three, Bishop had five birdies and eight pars, Barnes had one birdie and 14 pars, and Weinstein had three birdies and seven pars during his final round.

Overall, Rubino tied for second in birdies (17), tied for seventh in par 4 scoring (3.93, -2) and tied for eighth in par 5 scoring (4.67, -4). Bishop tied for second in par 3 scoring (2.83, -2) and tied for 12th in pars (38). Barnes also tied for 12th in pars (38). Hutcheson tied for 13th in par 5 scoring (4.75, -3).

The highly-competitive tournament field featured 13 of 19 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest Division III National Collegiate Golf Rankings, including five of the Top 10. The Tigers are 29th nationally in the SCOREBOARD powered by clippd rankings. No. 1 Methodist (NC) University won the event with its 279-288-274--841, while Zachary Coker of No. 21 Huntingdon (AL) College was the individual medalist at 11-under par 68-66-71--205.

H-SC will host The Tiger Invitational—a two-day, 36-hole tournament—on Sunday and Monday, March 10-11, at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The Tigers' B Team was in Savannah, as well, and competed in the Port City Classic—posting second- and third-round scores of 314 and 312 on Tuesday for a 54-hole team score of 922 (296-314-312) to finish 13th among the 17 teams in that tournament. Junior Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) led the group with his 69-74-75--218 that tied for fourth individually among the 94 golfers.

Lott was followed by freshmen Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (77-79-73--228, T-38th) and Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (74-78-82--234, T-56th), along with juniors Brody Smith (Yorktown) (77-85-82--244, T-78th) and Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (79-83-85--247, 86th). Lott posted one birdie and 12 pars during his final round on the par 71, 6,715-yard layout, while Lambert had five birdies and seven pars, Sibley had one birdie and 11 pars, Smith had 12 pars, and Sirmans had one birdie and nine pars during his final round.

Overall, Lott tied for first in eagles (1), tied for second in both par 4 scoring (4.09, +3) and pars (37), and tied for 15th in par 5 scoring (4.67, -3). Lambert tied for 13th in birdies (8).

Maryville (TN) College won the event with its 287-288-294--869, while Maryville's Caden Gambini was the individual medalist at one-under par 69-70-73--212.

H-SC's B Team will host the H-SC 7 Lakes Invitational—a two-day, 36-hole tournament—on Sunday and Monday, March 10-11, at the 7 Lakes Golf Club in West End, North Carolina near Pinehurst.
