SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a round of 287 on Monday to stand 14th among 19 teams at the
Savannah Invitational being played at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia. Junior
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) is leading the Tigers with his two-under par 70 that is tied for 10th individually among the 95 collegiate golfers. Round two is underway but was suspended due to darkness and will resume on Tuesday morning.
Rubino posted five birdies and 10 pars during his opening round on the par 72, 6,851-yard layout. He is being followed by junior
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (71, T-17th), senior
Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (73, T-40th) and freshman
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (73, T-40th), along with freshman
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (74, T-58th). Hutcheson had four birdies and 11 pars, Bishop and Barnes each had one birdie and 15 pars, while Weinstein had three birdies and 10 pars.
Washington and Lee University is leading the event with its 278, while there are four individuals tied at four-under par 68.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday in Georgia.
The Tigers' B Team is in Savannah, as well, and is competing in the Port City Classic—posting a round of 297 to stand in a tie for fifth among the 17 teams in that tournament. Junior
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) is leading the group with his two-under par 69 that is tied for first individually among the 94 golfers. Round two is underway but was suspended due to darkness and will resume on Tuesday morning.
Lott is being followed by freshman
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (74, T-19th), junior
Brody Smith (Yorktown) (77, T-45th) and freshman
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (77, T-45th), along with junior
Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (79, T-58th). Lott posted one eagle, two birdies and 13 pars during his opening round on the par 71, 6,715-yard layout, while Sibley had two birdies and 12 pars, Smith had two birdies and 11 pars, Lambert had one birdie and 11 pars, and Sirmans had one birdie and 11 pars.
Maryville (TN) College is leading the event with its 287, while Lott is tied with two other individuals at two-under par 69.
H-SC's B Team will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday in Georgia.
