LIVE SCORING

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. --
The nationally-ranked No. 25 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a first-round score of 302 on Friday to stand in a tie for 16th among 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational being played at the King and Prince Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Senior Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) and junior John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) are leading the Tigers with their respective rounds of one-over par 72 that has them tied for 19th individually among the 150 collegiate golfers. Four teams did not complete round one before darkness, each with one or two golfers needing to complete the final hole.

Bishop posted four birdies and 10 pars during his opening round on the par 71, 6,515-yard layout, while Hutcheson had three birdies and 11 pars. They are being followed by freshman Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (77, T-76th), along with juniors Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (81, T-130th) and Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (84, T-144th). Barnes and Lott each contributed two birdies and nine pars, while Rubino added one birdie and nine pars.

The large and highly-competitive tournament field features 15 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in today's (March 22) Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, including eight of the Top 10; however, unranked Rhodes (TN) is leading the event with its even par team round of 284. Andrew Watson of No. 7 Lynchburg is the individual leader at four-under par 67. The Tigers have entered the Top 25 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll for the first time this year.

H-SC will continue its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Georgia.
