Hampden-Sydney Ties For 11th At The Tiger Invitational | Tigers' B Golf Team Finishes Third At The 7 Lakes Invitational

PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a second round of 299 on Monday for a 36-hole team score of 605 (306-299) to finish in a tie for 11th among 18 teams at The Tiger Invitational played at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Junior Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the host Tigers with his two-under par 72-70--142 that tied for first with three others among the 90 collegiate golfers.

Rubino posted four birdies and 12 pars during his second and final round on the par 72, 6,925-yard layout. He was followed by senior Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (75-74--149, T-20th), juniors John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (80-77--157, T-63rd) and Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (79-79--158, T-68th), along with freshman Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (81-78--159, T-71st). Bishop had three birdies and 11 pars, Hutcheson and Lott each had one birdie and 11 pars, while Weinstein had two birdies and eights pars.

Bishop finished second among the tournament field in par 5 scoring (4.38, -5). Rubino finished third in par 4 scoring (3.95, -1), tied for third in both par 5 scoring (4.63, -3) and birdies (7), and tied for 10th in pars (24).

Huntingdon (AL) College won the event with its 288-295--583, while Avery Stansell of Rhodes (TN) College took medalist honors with his win in the four-way playoff, finishing at two-under par 75-67--142.

H-SC, ranked 27th nationally in the SCOREBOARD powered by clippd rankings, will play again at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on March 22-24 at The King and Prince Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia.

The Tigers' B Team was in the Pinehurst areas, as well, and serving as host at the 7 Lakes Invitational—posting a second round of 319 for a 36-hole team score of 635 (316-319) to finish third among the 11 teams in that tournament. Freshman Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) led the group with his 77-76--153 that is tied for third individually among the 68 golfers.

Barnes was followed by freshmen Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (75-85--160, T-21st) and Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (84-77--161, T-23rd), junior Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (80-84--164, T-31st), along with freshman Brody Smith (Yorktown) (87-82--169, T-46th). In addition, sophomores Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (80-79--159, 20th), Jack Davis (Radford) (83-79--162, T-25th) and Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) (87-81--168, T-40th) also competed at the event.

Barnes posted two birdies and 11 pars during his second and final round on the par 71, 6,561-yard layout, while Peyton Lambert had two birdies and three pars, Sibley had two birdies and nine pars, Sirmans had one birdie and seven pars, and Smith had 10 pars. Pierce Lambert posted two birdies and nine pars, Davis had three birdies and seven pars, and Wright had one birdie and seven pars.

The Carnegie Mellon (PA) University B Team won the event with its 312-302--614, while CMU's Jay Saluja took medalist honors at 76-74--150.

H-SC's B Team will H-SC will host the H-SC Spring Invitational at the Manor on March 16-17, a 36-hole tournament to be played at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville.
