HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 12 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at archrival Randolph-Macon College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Saturday night, December 7, at 7 p.m. in Ashland. The Tigers are 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, following an 85-80 conference home win past (RV)Roanoke College on Dec. 4 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets, receiving votes in the poll, are 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, as well, after an 86-55 conference home win past (17)Guilford (NC) College on Dec. 4. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM—pregame at 6:30 p.m., and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Randolph-Macon Sports Network.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 87-39 at the College, ranking seventh in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.690) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 26.2 points (51% FGs, 12 3FGs, 88% FTs), 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) adds 15.7 points (57% FGs), 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) averages 10.8 points (61% FGs, 12-19 3FGs). Joining Brazil and Fernald in the lineup have been senior guards Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.0 points, 7 3FGs) and Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (3.8 points, 50% FGs, 5.7 rebounds), along with freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (4.8 points). Radcliffe and junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (6.0 points) have played off the bench. H-SC shoots 50% (182-368) from the field, including 33% (40-122) on three-point field goals, and 68% (94-138) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 83.0 points, and yielding 73.3 points, for a +9.7 scoring margin.

Scouting (RV)Randolph-Macon
RMC is coached by 10th-year head coach Josh Merkel and has been led by a trio of junior guards: Keishawn Pulley Jr., who is averaging 13.8 points (9 3FGs) and 6.0 rebounds, Jabril Robinson, who is also averaging 13.8 points (11 3FGs), along with 5.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds, and Amr Areikat, who contributes 12.8 points (7 3FGs) and 3.8 assists. The Yellow Jackets shoot 44% (124-284) from the field, including 31% (45-147) on three-pointers, and 73% (79-108) at the line. RMC is scoring 74.4 points, and yielding 68.2 points, for a +6.2 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and RMC are playing for the 169th time since 1950. The Yellow Jackets lead the series, 101-67, including 51-32 as members of the ODAC since 1989. The Tigers, however, have won two of the last three meetings, including 84-77 on November 13 in Fleet Gym, and 61-52 last December 8, 2023 in Ashland—its first win at RMC since February 6, 2013 (66-47).

Adam Brazil has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 26.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33.9 minutes, while shooting 51% (54-105) from the field, including 32% (12-38) on three-pointers, and 88% (37-42) at the line. He scored a career-high 34 points vs. RMC on Nov. 13.

Picking Up Where He Left Off
Shane Fernald
has began this season as he finished last season ... playing at a high level ... averaging 15.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 23.4 minutes, while shooting 57% (40-70) from the field. He scored a career-high 21 points vs. Roanoke on Dec. 4.

Impact Transfers
Colin Radcliffe
and Hamilton Campbell have been impact transfers to the program. Colin is averaging 10.8 points in 20.4 minutes off the bench, while shooting 61% (22-36) from the field, including 63% (12-19) on three-pointers, and 75% (9-12) at the line. He scored a career-high 27 points at Swarthmore on Nov. 9. Hamilton is averaging 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 14.9 minutes off the bench, while shooting 75 % (12-16) at the line. He scored a season-high nine points at CNU on Nov. 19.

Career Watch
Adam Brazil
is 23rd in program history with 1,215 career points in 99 career games. He adds 310 career assists, 113 career steals and 202 career three-pointers—approaching the Top 10 in each category, as well. Russell Turner '92—the current head at NCAA Division I UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader with 2,272 career points.

moved up a spot to No. 12 nationally in the week two D3hoops.com Top 25. The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason poll and 13th in the week one poll, earned 321 points in this week's rankings (12/2). Defending NCAA Division III National Champion Trine (IN) University (7-0) was ranked first with 624 points, including 24 first-place votes. ODAC member Guilford (NC) (201 points) remains 17th, while ODAC schools Randolph-Macon (37), Averett (31) and Roanoke (12) were each receiving votes in the poll.

Adam Brazil
and sophomore center Alex Cannon (Loganville, GA) were named the ODAC Offensive & Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for games played Nov. 18-24. Adam Brazil averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three games, earning the conference's offensive honors for the second-straight week. He scored a game-high 22 points, adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals during a 74-71 road win at (5)Christopher Newport on Nov. 19 ... had a game-high 23 points in 22 minutes during a 96-67 home win past Pfeiffer (NC) on Nov. 22 ... and followed with a game-high 30 points, adding six rebounds, four assists and a game-high two steals during an 81-78 home setback to (RV)Gettysburg on Nov. 23. Alex Cannon averaged 3.0 blocks, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 points in 14.0 minutes off the bench to earn the defensive honors for the first time. He had a game-high three blocks, adding a career-high five rebounds in 15 minutes during the road win at CNU ... posted a game-high and career-high five blocks, along with five points and four rebounds in 13 minutes against Pfeiffer ... and followed with four points, a game-high one block, along with one rebound and one steal in 14 minutes against Gettysburg.

Adam Brazil
was named both the United States Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week and the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, while also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for games played Nov. 8-17. He averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists during a pair of season-opening wins. Adam scored a game-high and career-high 34 points during an 84-77 home win past archrival (7)Randolph-Macon on Nov. 13 ... and had 17 points, a game-high six assists and four rebounds during an 81-64 road win at (RV)Swarthmore (PA) on Nov. 9.

Back-to-Back Top 10 Wins

posted consecutive Top 10 wins within six days earlier this season, including an 84-77 home win past preseason No. 7 Randolph-Macon on Nov. 13 in Fleet Gym ... and a 74-71 road win at preseason No. 5 Christopher Newport on Nov. 19 in Newport News. The Tigers led 41-35 at halftime, and by as many as 14 points in the second half against the Yellow Jackets as Adam Brazil score a game-high and career-high 34 points. The Garnet & Grey led 33-25 at halftime, and by as many as 12 points in the second half against the Captains as Brazil scored a game-high 22 points. It marked the second consecutive road win at CNU, along with an 85-70 road win at CNU on Dec. 13, 2022 in Newport News.

The Team Three-Point Stat

has made at least one three-point field goal in 499 consecutive games, dating back to a home game vs. Emory & Henry on Dec. 3, 2005 (0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99.

The Tigers own wins against (5)CNU (74-71) and (7)RMC (84-77), as well as against (RV)Swarthmore (81-64) and (RV)Roanoke (85-80). The Garnet & Grey lost to (RV)Gettysburg (81-78)—the Bullets were ranked eighth in the latest poll. H-SC is scheduled to play (24)John Carroll on Dec. 20 and Eastern on Dec. 21, both NCAA Tournament teams last season.

is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,522 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

NCAA Tournament History
H-SC
has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 13 of the 16 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 25-17. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. The Garnet & Grey were also National Runner-Up in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime in the National Championship contest, and fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals, before falling to Wooster (OH) 78-74 in the third-place game. H-SC also advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994 and 1998. The Tigers have hosted 22 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 17-5.

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

Hubbard Transfers To Baylor
Davidson Hubbard '24
announced his commitment to NCAA Division I Baylor University on July 30 for his fifth year of collegiate eligibility as a graduate transfer student-athlete. Davidson, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in visual arts, was named to the 2023-24 NABC All-America Second Team, the D3hoops.com All-America Third Team, the NABC All-District 6 First Team, the D3hoops.com All-Region 6 First Team, as well as the All-ODAC First Team. He started 33 of 34 games while averaging 14.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists … shooting 47% (203-433) from the field, 32% (48-151) on three-pointers and 82% (54-66) at the line. Davidson started 82 of 92 career games at H-SC, posting 1,188 career points (26th all-time), 674 career rebounds, 98 career assists, 73 career steals, 58 career blocks (8th all-time) and 90 career three-pointers. He finished with a career field goal percentage of 50% (475-949), a career three-point percentage of 35% (90-256) and a career free throw percentage of 75% (148-197). Through Dec. 5, Davidson had played in four games for the (15)Bears (5-2) with four points, three rebounds and one block.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Dec. 5, Turner was 298-180 at UCI (9-0 this season) ... Odom was 190-113 overall, including 31-16 at VCU (7-2 this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 117-88 at Longwood (8-2 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (41-20) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.

H-SC will be idle for the majority of next week for fall semester exams before hosting non-conference opponent William Peace (NC) University on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in Fleet Gym.
