HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. --
Hampden-Sydney College senior Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) has been named to the 2023-24 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List, as announced today by Small College Basketball. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball to include NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Hubbard, a 6-5 forward, leads Division III's nationally-ranked No. 1 Tigers (14-1) with his 15.9 points and 8.1 rebounds.

Hubbard has started all 15 games this season, averaging 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 28.9 minutes, while adding 13 steals and four blocks. He is shooting 51% (97-192) from the field, including 37% (26-70) on three-point field goals, and 82% (18-22) at the free throw line. Hubbard is the team leader in points (238), scoring average, field goals, field goal attempts, field goal percentage, rebounds (122), rebound average, offensive rebounds (30) and defensive rebounds (92). He scored a team-best and career-high 31 points at then-No. 1 John Carroll (12/19) … grabbed a team-best and tied a career-high 16 rebounds vs. (RV) Widener in the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic (11/17) … tied a season-high three assists two times, most recent at John Carroll … tied a season-high two steals four times, most recent vs. Salisbury (12/30) … tied a season-high one block four times, most recent vs. Eastern Mennonite (1/13) … made a team-best and tied a career-high four three-point field goals two times, most recent vs. Rose-Hulman in the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic (11/18) … and played a career-high 37 minutes at then-No. 11 Guilford (12/2). Hubbard has posted a team-best 12 double-figure scoring games, including eight-straight, along with a team-best one 30-point game among a team-best four 20-point games, and has led the team in scoring seven times and in rebounding 12 times—adding a team-best four double-doubles and tied with a team-best 12 dunks. He has previously been named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week after averaging 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two late December wins (at John Carroll, 12/19; Salisbury, 12/30), and he was also named the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic MVP after averaging 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two wins (vs. Widener, 11/17; vs. Rose-Hulman, 11/18).

Considerations for the Bevo Francis Award include season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements. This is an incredibly prestigious award, given annually to one player within Small College Basketball. The list will be narrowed to the Top 50 on February 15 and the Top 25 on March 15, and the timing for the finalists and the award winner is yet to be determined. The Top 100 Watch List also includes fellow ODAC players Tyler Dearman of No. 2 Guilford, Omari DeVeaux of No. 20 Virginia Wesleyan and Robert DiSibio of Washington and Lee, along with Jahn Hines of defending national champion Christopher Newport.

H-SC is 14-1 overall, 6-1 in the ODAC, and ranked No. 1 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25. The Tigers are scheduled to play on the road at ODAC opponent Randolph College on Wednesday, January 17, at 5 p.m. in Lynchburg—please note another early start time.
