FINAL RESULTS
BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a third-round score of 290 on Tuesday for a 54-hole team score of 910 (320-300-290) to move up one spot and finish 15th among 18 teams at the
NCAA Division III Fall Preview played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Freshman
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) led the Tigers with his collegiate-best for 54 holes at four-over par 77-73-70--220, tying for 16th among the strong tournament field of 90 collegiate golfers.
Barnes posted six birdies and eight pars during his impressive final round of two-under par 70 on the par 72, 7,380-yard Desert Hawk-Coyote Run layout at Boulder Creek. He was followed by juniors
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (83-70-72--225, T-37th) and
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (80-79-74--233, T-71st), freshman
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (80-78-78--236, 77th), along with junior
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (91-80-74--245, 87th). Rubino posted five birdies and eight pars during his final round on Tuesday. Lott had two birdies and 13 pars. Sibley had three birdies and eight pars, and his 236 was a collegiate-best for 54 holes, as well. Hutcheson had three birdies and 10 pars on Tuesday.
Barnes also tied for fourth among the tournament field in par 3 scoring (3.00, E), tied for 12th in par 4 scoring (4.23, +7) and tied for 17th in pars (31). Rubino tied for ninth in birdies (12) and tied for 12th in par 4 scoring (4.23, +7), as well.
The highly-competitive tournament field featured 12 of 18 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest
Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll, including seven of the Top 10—No. 1 Methodist (NC) won the event with its 301-283-266--850. Grayson Maddox of No. 10 Sewanee (TN) was the individual medalist at 10-under par 70-65-71--206.
H-SC, getting votes in the national poll, has completed its fall campaign and is scheduled to open the spring portion of the schedule at the
Savannah Invitational on March 4-5, 2024 at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia.
