BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a second-round score of 300 on Monday for a 36-hole team score of 620 (320-300) to remain 16th among 18 teams at the
NCAA Division III Fall Preview being played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Junior
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the Tigers during round two with his impressive two-under par 70 on the par 72, 7,180-yard Desert Hawk-Coyote Run layout at Boulder Creek. He is at 83-70--153 overall and is tied for 38th individually among the field of 90 collegiate golfers.
Freshman
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) continues to lead H-SC with his two-day score of 77-73--150 that is tied for 24th individually. Barnes (150) and Rubino (153) are followed by freshman
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (80-78--158, T-65th), along with juniors
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (80-79--159, T-69th) and
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (91-80--171, 88th). Rubino posted five birdies and 10 pars during his round on Monday, the seventh-best individual round of the day. Barnes had two birdies and 13 pars, while tying for the 20th-best round of the day. Sibley and Lott each had two birdies and eight pars. Hutcheson had two birdies and nine pars on Monday.
The highly-competitive tournament field features 12 of 18 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll, including seven of the Top 10—No. 1 Methodist (NC) is leading the event with its 301-283--584. Grayson Maddox of No. 10 Sewanee (TN) is the individual leader at nine-under par 70-65--135.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament with the final round on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m., near Las Vegas.
