FINAL RESULTS
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a two-day, 36-hole team score of 310-304--614 on Monday and Tuesday to finish 12th among 18 teams at the
O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament played at The Cardinal by Pete Dye golf course in Greensboro, North Carolina. Junior
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) led the Tigers with his 73-76--149 that tied for 20th individually among the 108 collegiate golfers on the par 71, 6,735-yard layout.
Hutcheson posted four birdies and eight pars during his final round that equaled his lowest 36-hole score as a Tiger. He was followed by junior
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (79-75--154, T-43rd), freshmen
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (77-78--155, T-50th) and
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (82-75--157, T-61st), along with junior
Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (81-83--164, T-88th). Rubino had two birdies and 10 pars in round two, while Sibley had three birdies and seven pars, Barnes had four birdies and eight pars, and Sirmans had 10 pars in round two.
Hutcheson also tied for 11th among the tournament field in birdies (7) and tied for 13th in par 4 scoring (4.18, +4). Rubino and Sibley each tied for seventh in par 5 scoring (4.50, -3).
The Tigers' B Team competed in the tournament, as well, and posted a team score of 314-304--618 to finish 13th among the 18 teams. Junior
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) led the group with his 78-75--153 that tied for 36th individually among the 108 golfers. He was followed by sophomores
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (81-74--155, T-50th),
Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) (74-84--158, T-63rd) and
Ryan Porterfield (Cumming, GA) (85-75--160, T-71st), along with senior
Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (81-80--161, T-78th). Lott posted two birdies and 10 pars in round two, while Lambert had two birdies and 12 pars, Wright had three birdies and five pars, Porterfield had three birdies and eight pars, and Bishop had two birdies and eight pars.
Lott also tied for 13th among the tournament field in par 5 scoring (4.67, -2). Lambert tied for eighth in par 4 scoring (4.14, +3), and Porterfield tied for second in eagles (1).
Sophomore
Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (76-79--155, T-50th) and freshman
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (80-79--159, T-67th) each competed as individuals at the event. Hoyle posted one birdie and 10 pars in round two, while Weinstein had three birdies and 10 pars. Weinstein also tied for fifth among the tournament field in par 3 scoring 3.00, E) and tied for 13th in par 5 scoring (4.67, -2).
Averett University won the event with its 302-281--583, while AU's Max Pettersson was the individual medalist at six-under par 68-68--136.
H-SC will compete again at the
VSGA Intercollegiate Championship on October 16-17, a 36-hole tournament to be played at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville.
