GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a round of 310 on Monday to stand 12th among 18 teams at the
O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament being played at The Cardinal by Pete Dye golf course in Greensboro, North Carolina. Junior
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) is leading the Tigers with his two-over par 73 that is tied for 12th individually among the 108 collegiate golfers.
Hutcheson posted three birdies and nine pars during his opening round on the par 71, 6,735-yard layout. He is being followed by freshman
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (77, T-42nd), juniors
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (79, T-59th) and
Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (81, T-73rd), along with freshman
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (82, T-82nd). Sibley and Rubino each had two birdies and 10 pars, while Sirmans had one birdie and 11 pars, and Barnes had one birdie and 10 pars.
The Tigers' B Team is competing in the tournament, as well, and posted a round of 314 to stand 13th among the 18 teams. Sophomore
Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) is leading the group with his three-over par 74 that is tied for 17th individually among the 108 golfers. He is being followed by junior
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (78, T-47th), sophomore
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (81, T-73rd) and senior
Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (81, T-73rd), along with sophomore
Ryan Porterfield (Cumming, GA) (85, T-94th). Wright posted three birdies and 10 pars during his opening round, while Lott had three birdies and seven pars, Lambert had three birdies and eight pars, Bishop had 11 pars, and Porterfield had one eagle, one birdie and six pars.
Sophomore
Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (76, T-34th) and freshman
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (80, T-65th) are each competing as individuals. Hoyle posted two birdies and 10 pars, while Weinstein had one birdie and 11 pars.
The Methodist (NC) University B Team is leading the event with its 290, while Max Pettersson of Averett University is the individual leader at three-under par 68.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 36-hole tournament on Tuesday in Greensboro.
