FARMVILLE, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a round of 295 on Monday to stand second among 14 teams at the
74th VSGA Intercollegiate Championship being played at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville. Freshman
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) is leading the Tigers and the tournament field of 85 collegiate golfers with his three-under par round of 69. Christopher Newport University is leading the event with its 292.
Barnes posted one eagle, four birdies and 10 pars during his opening round on the par 72, 6,590-yard layout. He is being followed by juniors
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (73, T-6th),
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (75, T-18th) and
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (78, T-38th), along with freshman
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (84, T-70th).
The Tigers' B Team is competing in the tournament, as well, and posted a round of 300 to stand third. Junior
Brody Smith (Yorktown) is leading the group with his one-over par 73 that is tied for sixth individually. He had five birdies and eight pars and is being followed by freshman
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (75, T-18th) and sophomore
Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (75, T-18th), as well as sophomores
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (77, T-31st) and
Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) (78, T-38th).
The Tigers' C Team is also competing in the tournament, and posted a round of 310 to stand eighth. Freshman
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) is leading the group with his one-over par 73 that is tied for sixth individually. He had four birdies and 10 pars and is being followed by senior
Tommy Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) (75, T-18th), junior
Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (80, T-52nd), sophomore
Jack Davis (Radford) (82, T-61st) and senior
Cole Williams (Kenbridge) (84, T-70th).
The Tigers' D Team is competing in the tournament, as well, and posted a round of 332 to stand 13th. Freshman
Tucker Smith (Richmond) is leading the group with his 81 that is tied for 57th individually. He had three birdies and four pars and is being followed by freshman
Tucker Poole (Norfolk) (82, T-61st), sophomore
Cole Pollard (Manakin Sabot) (84, T-70th), senior
Reese Meyer (Virginia Beach) (85, T-75th) and freshman
Walker Sirmans (Rome, GA) (91, 82nd). Sophomore
Jack Craig (Raleigh, NC) (106, 85th) is playing as an individual this week for the Tigers.
H-SC, just three shots out of first place, will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 36-hole tournament on Tuesday at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville.
