Hampden-Sydney Rugby Football Club defeated the Richmond Spiders 39-12 on Saturday under tough, blustery conditions on the Ellis Rugby Pitch. In the last home game for seniors
Mason Khandagle and
David Haiss, the Tigers avenged a 7's loss to the Spiders earlier this spring in Richmond. Leading 24-0 at halftime and 34-0 late in the second half, the Ruggers offense benefited from balanced scoring.
Bruton Peacock led the with two tries while Teddy Hendrickson,
Jordan Payton,
Graeme Ebert,
David Haiss, and
John Gregoire had one try each.
Graeme Ebert also had two conversions. Playing great overall team defense featuring strong communication from
Carson Mann and standout tackling by
Greyson Hurley, Mason Kkandagle,
James Gilbert, and
Bryce Hare, the Tigers held the Spiders scoreless until late in the match. Up next for the Tigers will be a trip to VMI for a 15's match on Saturday, April 16th and then the spring season will conclude with a 15's match at Christopher Newport on Saturday, April 23rd. The VMI match will start at 4:30 as part of a full day of Rugby in Lexington. The Christopher Newport match will begin at 1 pm in Newport News.
