Hampden-Sydney Tennis Drops Match To No. 9 Case Western Reserve, 9-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team opened up its spring break trip with a 9-0 setback to nationally-ranked No. 9 Case Western Reserve. The Tigers fall to 0-4 on the season with the Spartans improving to 12-1.

Case Western swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Seniors Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. fell at number one doubles in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7). Classmates Clark Cummings/Norfolk and Grayson Burns/Waynesboro dropped their match at number two doubles 8-1. Junior Andrew Donelson/McLean and senior Zander Theoharis/Vero Beach, Fla. fell 8-0 at number three.

The Spartans won all six singles matches to complete the sweep. Matthew Moody fell 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles spot while twin brother Michael Moody fell 6-2, 6-2 at number two. Cummings dropped his match at number three with Donelson falling at number four singles. Theoharis was setback at number five singles. Freshman Patrick Conde/Virginia Beach stepped in at number six and dropped his match to finish the match.

The Tigers play St. Scholastica at 6:45 p.m. later today on March 8.
