ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team dropped its first match of the day against Carthage, 6-3, as part of the annual Spring Break trip. The Tigers (1-5) return to the courts later in the day when they take on Dickinson (0-6) at 7:00 p.m. from the USTA National Campus Indoor courts.
The team of seniors Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. picked up an 8-5 win at the number one doubles to start the match. Classmates Clark Cummings/Norfolk and Grayson Burns/Waynesboro fell 8-5 at number two doubles while junior Andrew Donelson/McLean and Zander Theoharis/Vero Beach, Fla. dropped their match at number three.
In singles, Cummings picked up the 6-2, 6-4 win at number three while Burns won his match at number four 6-3, 6-3. Matthew Moody, Michael Moody, Donelson, and freshman Patrick Conde/Virginia lost in straight sets at numbers 1, 2, 5, and 6, respectively.
