FARMVILLE, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team open the 2020 season on the road across town at Longwood, falling to the host Lancers 7-0. The match marked the sixth-straight year that the Tigers have played an NCAA Division I opponent.
H-SC dropped the doubles point to Longwood, with seniors Grayson Burns/Waynesboro and Clark Cummings/Norfolk fell, 7-5, at number two doubles. Seniors Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. dropped their match, 6-0, at the top doubles spot while seniors Zander Theoharis/Vero Beach, Fla. and sophomore Andrew Donelson/McLean falling at #3 doubles, 6-0.
Following doubles, the Tigers dropped the six singles matches in straight sets. Michael Moody dropped his match to the Lancers, 6-1, 6-2 at number two singles while his brother Matthew Moody fell at the number one singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Tigers (0-1) return home tomorrow, Saturday, February 15 when they host Belmont Abbey on the Tiger Tennis Courts at 12 p.m.
