SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney swim team picked up their fifth win of the season in dual meets with a 173-78 victory over Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon. The neutral site meet took place inside Prothro Natatorium on the campus of Sweet Briar College.
H-SC picked up a win in their first event of the day, the 200 Meter Medley Relay. The team of juniors Zach Stephan/Hampton, Anthony Vinson/Richmond, AJ Howard/Washington, N.C., and senior Brandon Koch/Spotsylvania touched the wall first in a time of 2:02.31. Just three seconds later, the foursome of freshman Andrew Rehak/Radford, sophomore Dane Warner/Norfolk, sophomore Jason Covaney/Williamsburg, and junior Eric Hope/Norfolk finished the event in a time of 2:05.60.
Sophomore Woody Parsons/Virginia Beach won his first event of the day in the 800 Meter Free in a time of 9:36.94, nearly four and half minutes ahead of the second-place swimmer from the Bison.
Covaney and sophomore Ben Hiter/Mineral finished one, two in the 200 Meter Free in times of 2:19.49 and 2:25.04, respectively. Stephan and Rehak made it back to back, top-two in the next men's event, the 100 Meter Back. Stephan finished in a time of 1:06.05 with Rehak touching the board in 1:10.70.
Vinson (1:22.24), Warner (1:23.20), and freshman Ryan Foresman/Charlottesville (1:44.20) finished second through fourth, respectively, in the 100 Meter Breast. Koch won his first event of the day in the 200 Meter Fly in a time of 2:38.36 with Howard finishing second in a time of 2:44.28.
The Tigers swept the top four spots in the 50 Meter Free with Vinson (:26.79), Hope (:27.13), Rehak (:27.52) and Hiter (:28.46) placing in the event. In the 100 Meter Free, Stephan, Koch, and Hiter matched the previous event finishing one, two, and three with times of :56.11, :58.63, and 1:06.88, respectively.
Stephen, the lone swimmer for H-SC in the 200 Meter Back finished second in a time of 2:35.22.
Warner and Foresman took the top-two spots in the 200 Meter Back with times of 3:10.31 and 3:40.21, respectively. Parsons and Hope once again helped the Tigers finish in the top two spots of an event, the 400 Meter Free. Parsons won his second event in a time of 4:52.02 with Hope touching the wall in 5:05.88.
Howard (1:04.69), Covaney (1:06.71) and Rehak (1:12.56) were the top three finishers in the 100 Meter Fly. Parsons (2:27.60) and Vinson (2:37.39) finished second and third in the 200 Meter IM.
In the last event of the day, Koch, Covaney, Howard, and Parsons won the 200 Meter Free Relay in a time of 1:49.23. The team of Foresman, Hiter, Warner, and Hope took home second in the event with a time of 1:58.95.
The Tigers return to the pool on Friday, January 17 when they host Lynchburg in a dual meet at 6 p.m. The Senior Day meet will take place inside Leggett Pool at Kirby Field House.
