Hampden-Sydney Basketball Earns Non-Conference Road Win At St. Mary's College of Maryland 72-68

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Sophomore Jack Wyatt/Richmond scored a game-high and career-high 26 points to lead Hampden-Sydney College to 72-68 non-conference basketball road win at St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday night in St. Mary's City, Maryland. Senior captain Kevin Quinn/Apex, N.C. added a season-high 21 points for the Tigers (2-5), while junior captain Jake Hahn/Ruckersville had his third double-double this season with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Gary Grant scored 15 points for the Seahawks (2-6).

"Big road win tonight!" said first-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "I'm very proud of the way our guys battled. We shared the ball and stayed very poised when things weren't going our way. We definitely grew as a team tonight."

H-SC took an early 8-6 advantage at 16:56 after a jumper in the lane by freshman Ryan Clements/Conyers, Ga. that followed six quick points from Wyatt. Quinn's third three-point field goal of the contest put the Tigers ahead 22-21 at 9:39, and the visitors led 24-21 after a basket by Hahn with 8:54 left in the half. SMCM took a 30-26 lead at 6:04, but H-SC battled back and closed the half on an 18-7 run to lead 44-37 at the intermission. Wyatt had 16 points at the break, including eight over the final 5:46, while Quinn scored 12 first-half points.

The Seahawks rallied back to within 59-57 with 7:46 on the clock, but that's as close as the hosts would get down the stretch. The visitors led 65-58 at 5:27 after Quinn knocked down his seventh three-pointer, and it was 71-66 with 1:03 remaining after Wyatt's final basket of the night. SMCM did manage to get within three points on three separate occasions over the final 4:26, but H-SC was able to secure its victory and improve to 2-1 on the road this season.
