Hampden-Sydney Swimming Wins Over Bridgewater, Southern Virginia In Home Opener

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA. – The Hampden-Sydney swim team picked up a pair of dual wins over visiting Bridgewater and Southern Virginia on Friday evening inside Leggett Pool at Kirby Field House. The Tigers won over the Eagles, 149-90, while also picking up the victory over the Knights, 151-71.

H-SC began the evening with a win in the 400 meter Medley Relay. Junior Zach Stephan/Hampton, sophomore Dane Warner/Norfolk, sophomore Jason Covaney/Williamsburg and junior Anthony Vinson/Richmond finished first in a time of 4:33.06; over four-seconds ahead of second-place Southern Virginia.

In the next men's event, sophomore Woody Parsons/Virginia Beach took home first place in the 1500 meter Freestyle in a time of 18:37.53. The time was nearly four minutes faster than the next swimmer. In the 200 Meter Freestyle, Vinson finished second in a time of 2:11.16.

Covaney and freshman Andrew Rehak/Radford finished one-two in the 100 meter Backstroke in times of 1:09.67 and 1:10.24, respectively. Parsons took home his second win of the night in the 200 meter Butterfly in a time of 2:22.80.

Stephan continued the winning ways for the Tigers in the 200 meter Backstroke in a time of 2:29.88, while Rehak finished second in a time of 2:35.82. Parsons and junior Eric Hope/Norfolk also finished as the top two finishers in the 400 meter Freestyle. Parsons (4:46.14) claimed his third win of the night, while Hope (5:06.88) narrowly finished ahead of Southern Virginia.

Once more the Tigers finished as the top finishers in an event with Stephan and junior AJ Howard/Washington, N.C. taking the top spots in the 200 meter IM. Stephan won the event with a time of 2:26.99, while Howard touched the board second in a time of 2:35.74.

In the last event of the night, the 200 meter Freestyle Relay, Howard, Covaney, Hope and Stephan won with a time of 1:45.29, just .18 seconds ahead of second-place Southern Virginia. Rehak, sophomore Ben Hiter/Mineral, Warner, and Vinson finished third in a time of 1:53.22.

H-SC will have a two-week break before its next meet on Saturday, November 9; traveling to Lynchburg to face Southern Virginia and Virginia Wesleyan on the campus of Liberty University beginning at 1 p.m.
