A pair of second-half goals lifted Hampden-Sydney Soccer to a 2-0 win over Birmingham Southern on the second day of the Berry Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In another defensive minded half of soccer, the two teams combined for just 10 shots and three shots on goal in the opening 45. H-SC registered four shots and two on target.
  • H-SC was aggressive out of the gate after halftime, registering the first six shots of the half
  • H-SC put one of those shots in the back of the net in the 48th minute when Spell Carr found Jacob Mann for a goal at 47:53
  • The Tigers kept peppering the cage throughout the frame and scored an insurance tally at 85:26 as Ryan Turner converted on a Jacob Mann pass.

COACH DINUZZO'S COMMENTS

  • "Great effort by the entire team. We felt like this was the first time this season that we put together two good halves. Once again, a number of guys stepped up when it mattered most, and our work rate was excellent. We deserved a good result today, and I'm glad the guys got rewarded."

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Jacob Mann posted three points on a goal and an assist
  • The H-SC defense, led by starting defenseman Thomas Carswell, Eli Strong, Cole Burton, and James Winkler along with goalkeeper Gray Sutter held the Panthers to just one shot on the goal and zero corner kicks for the game
  • Ryan Turner scored once while Spell Carr added an assist

FOR THE FOES

  • Galen Curry posted five saves
  • Sam Kyle contributed the Panthers lone shot on goal
