Soccer Clinches ODAC Tournament Bid With 3-0 Win Over E&H

Hampden-Sydney Soccer spoiled Emory & Henry's homecoming and clinched a spot in the ODAC Tournament with a 3-0 win over the Wasps on Saturday evening. Head Coach Tommy DiNuzzo tied the school record for most wins by a coach in his first season on the Tiger sidelines.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers controlled the play throughout the contest, and Spell Carr sent in a crossing pass from the left that found the head of Josh McCormack and he played it inside the left post at 8:49
  • E&H's Nathan Neisius was ejected from the contest at 34:05 with a red card, putting the Tigers up a man for the rest of the contest
  • The Wasps managed to keep the Tigers at bay for 20 minutes, but the pressure did them in when in the 58th minute they were whistled for a foul in the box, leading to a JP Reategui penalty kick goal
  • The Tigers tacked on one more goal for good measure in the 66th minute when Ryan Turner passed ahead to Hunter Weiland who finished one a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper

COACH DINUZZO'S COMMENTS

  • "Important win for us tonight against a hard working E&H team. The guys did a great job staying focused throughout the course of the game so we could get the result we needed. Now we have a lot left to play for and are looking forward to Tuesday night."

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Josh McCormack posted the game-winning score while Hunter Weiland and JP Reategui each found the back of the net once
  • Ryan Turner and Spell Carr added assists
  • Gray Sutter made two saves, but he was rarely challenged defense allowed just six shots with two on target, led by starters

FOR THE FOES

  • Samuel Irvin stopped three shots
  • Tyequis Stallins and Jordan Couch registered one shot on goal apiece

  • E&H was called for 20 fouls compared to 12 for the Tigers
