Catholic's First Half Surge Defeats H-SC Soccer

Box Score

The Catholic University of America Cardinals used four first half goals to defeat Hampden-Sydney Soccer 4-0.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers caught an unlucky bounce when Sean Adams' shot was blocked, and the deflection went directly to Joseph Nguyen who collected it and sent it in over the goalkeeper
  • Hunter Weiland nearly evened the score just over a minute later but his left footed shot was just a few inches too high and bounced off the top of the crossbar and out.
  • A Catholic shot in the 12th minute went directly off a Hampden-Sydney defender's arm in the box, resulting in a penalty kick goal for Miguel Hernandez. Cameron McFarlane dove right to the ball but it was placed just right inside of the right post and well out of McFarlane's reach
  • Cam Linnville headed in Sean Adams corner kick at 21:45 for the third goal
  • Tyler Martin added the last score at 26:50 when his kick after a foul restart slipped through the goalkeeper's hands.
  • The Tigers were able to mount a few more promising opportunities but were not able to finish off any
