Five-Goal First Quarter Sparks #5 Salisbury's 12-7 Win Over Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse

RICHMOND, VA – Fifth-ranked Salisbury Lacrosse scored five goals in the first quarter en route to a 12-7 win over the Tigers at St. Christopher's School in Richmond

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • James Barton opened the scoring at 9:35, then Brady Dashiell and Nathan Blondino pocketed scores just 30 seconds apart to go up 3-0 at 5:22
  • Brendan Bromwell and Jake Rotman closed out the first with goals to make it 5-0 after 15 minutes
  • Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC / Lake Norman) and Chandler Shaheen (Richmond, VA / St. Christopher's) found the back of the net at 14:23 and 10:49 in the second to trim the deficit down to three, but Carson Kalama and Garrett Reynolds posted goals just six seconds apart at 10:22 and 10:16 to put the lead back to five
  • Duncan Morris (Charlottesville, VA / Christchurch) put a shot in cage at 6:38 and both teams were held scoreless the rest of the half as the score was 7-3 going into intermission
  • The scoring drought continued for both teams for a total of 15 minutes before Ian Levin (Chapel Hill, NC / East Chapel Hill) answered at 6:45 to once again shave the deficit to just three goals, 7-4, but Blondino and Reynolds tallied back-to-back goals to go back ahead by five, 9-4, with 2:01 left in the third.
  • Morris notched a goal with just 34 seconds left in the third
  • Salisbury went on to score the first two tallies of the fourth and kept the Tigers out of the goal until the final six minutes of the game

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Mitch Renfrow (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) started his first collegiate game between the pipes and stopped 16 shots
  • Morris contributed a hat trick along with three ground balls
  • Koferl scored twice with three ground balls
  • Hunter Brown (Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle) recorded two assists

FOR THE FOES

  • Burton paced the Seagulls with four points on two scores and two assists
  • Reynolds, Bromwell, and Blondino each scored twice
  • Duncan Campbell won 11 of his 16 face-off attempts
  • Anthony Stavrakis recorded eight saves
