HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half proved to be relatively evenly contested with R-MC holding a 7-4 edge in shots but both teams had just one shot on goal
  • The one shot on target for the Tigers came in the 24th minute when Hunter Weiland's half volley from outside of the box got past the keeper to give H-SC a 1-0 lead at the half
  • The tide of the contest turned after intermission as Randolph-Macon seized control of the game from the outset
  • Macon peppered the goal often in the second frame and had a shot go off post, off the back of Cameron McFarlane, and then saved by McFarlane in the 48th minute
  • R-MC drew a corner kick in the 56th minute and Bryan Lutz's shot went off the post but Peter Nelson corralled it and put it in the back of the net just seconds later
  • McFarlane made several great plays in net over the rest of the half to help send the game to overtime
  • Randolph-Macon continued to dominate time of possession in overtime and the pressure eventually paid off when Nelson gathered a deflected free kick and scored at 94:51

  • Weiland scored his first goal of the season
  • Robert Kerby shot twice

FOR THE FOES

  • Nelson scored his second and third goals of the season and had team highs of four shots with three on goal
  • Lutz had an assist
  • Logan McHugh and Andrew Griggs each recorded four shots

STATS OF THE GAME

  • R-MC outshot H-SC 20-6, including a 13-2 advantage after halftime. The Yellow Jackets also held a 7-1 edge in shots on goal
  • Randolph-Macon was awarded eight corner kicks to five for Hampden-Sydney
