Soccer Scores 3-0 Win Over Southern Virginia

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney gave its home crowd an exciting 3-0 win in the home opener vs. Southern Virginia on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers brought offensive pressure form the opening whistle and dominated time of possession.
  • The Tigers had several shots barely go wide or high of the net before Robert Kerby (Hampton, VA / Kecoughtan) controlled a deflected pass and put it in the back of the net.
  • H-SC had a few more chances in the first half but couldn't convert as they went into the half up 1-0
  • H-SC was a bit sluggish to start the second half but didn't take long to gain back the momentum
  • Ryan Turner (Raleigh, NC / Sanderson) delivered a through ball to Kerby, who outraced the defense and pocked his second goal of the match in the 58th minute.
  • In the 69th minute, Turner tacked on a score of his own when the SVU goalkeeper came out far from his net but misplayed the ball as Turner got to it first and got the shot off barely wide of the goalkeepers hands and it found its way just inside the bottom right corner of the goal.

  • Kerby led the way with two goals
  • Turner totaled three points on a goal and an assist along with a team-high three shots on goal
  • Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) and the defense registered the first clean sheet of the season while McFarlane posted four saves

  • Tristan Lonergran registered three shots with two on goal

STATS OF THE GAME

  • After having only six shots vs. Marymount on Tuesday, the Tigers surpassed that total by the 21st minute en route to a 21-6 shot advantage
