HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Guilford upset Hampden-Sydney 2-1 while the two squads had to battle rain and heavy winds for all 90 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers got on the scoreboard quickly when Liam Hogan (Haymarket, VA / Battlefield) found the back of the net in the 5th minute.
  • Guilford got the ball deep within the box and had a shot saved and another blocked, but the blocked shot hit a Hampden-Sydney defender in the arm from near point blank range to earn a penalty kick that Jake Elsey converted.
  • The Quakers caught another big break in the 79th minute when an attempted shot hit a H-SC defender in the arm while he was on the ground, earning another penalty kick, this time finished off by Corey McDonough.

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Hogan scored in his fourth consecutive game
  • Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) made five saves

FOR THE FOES

  • Elsey and McDonough notched a goal apiece with McDonough getting the game-winning score
