Soccer Opens ODAC Play with 2-0 Win Over Shenandoah

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – A goal apiece in each half propelled Hampden-Sydney Soccer to a 2-0 win over Shenandoah in each team's ODAC opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Robert Kerby (Hampton, VA / Kecoughtan) outhustled his defender to the end line and turned the corner to send in a crossing pass to Liam Hogan (Haymarket, VA / Battlefield) who put it in the back of the net at 30:54
  • In the 58th minute, a crossing pass was stopped by a Shenandoah defender, but the ball bounced directly to Hunter Weiland (Raleigh, NC / Heritage) who sent it into the back right corner to make it 2-0. 
  • Shenandoah mounted three more shots on goal the rest of the way but never managed to got off a threatening shot.

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Hogan and McFarlane scored
  • Kerby added on an assist
  • McFarlane made seven saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season and 15th in his career to move into third place on the H-SC career shutouts record.

FOR THE FOES

  • Poell recorded four saves
  • Matt Sweeney and Brian Maye each registered three shots on target
