Soccer Tigers Pick Up 2-1 Win Over Ferrum

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Soccer got Hall of Fame Weekend off to a positive start with a 2-1 non-conference win over the visiting Ferrum College Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers had several strong chances in the first half, with the first shot on goal coming from Alex Strain (Roanoke, VA / North Cross) in the 21st minute when his shot from approximately 30 yards out nearly went just inside the right post but was saved
  • H-SC nearly struck in the 41st minute when JP Reatugui's (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) penalty kick was saved, but just two seconds later he got to the loose ball only to have the goalkeeper right there to make the point blank save.
  • Hampden-Sydney got the elusive first goal at 56:13 when Liam Hogan (Haymarket, VA / Battlefield) found the back of the net
  • The Tigers scored the game-winner in the 71st minute when a Matt Sheffield (Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle) pass found Hogan who attempted to shoot the ball but it got deflected across the goal mouth where Robert Kerby (Hampton, VA / Kecoughtan) pounced on it and tapped it in
  • Moore Dolue ended the shutout when he got in front of the defense on a breakaway and finished a one-one-one with the keeper in the 79th minute.

  • Hogan posted a goal and an assist
  • Kerby had one score while Sheffield tacked on an assist

FOR THE FOES

  • Derek Thomas notched seven saves
  • Moore Dolue scored
