Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking 3-2 OT Loss to Roanoke

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney appeared to have scored the game winning goal one minute into overtime but was called offside, and Roanoke's Lentine went on to score the golden goal at 94:33.

  • The Maroons' Jackson Goyette pounced on a misplayed ball and beat the goalkeeper to make it a 2-0 game at 55:15
  • Hunter Weiland (Raleigh, NC / Heritage) got the Tigers on board in the 69th minute when he took an Adam Christensen (Avon, IN / Covenant Christian) pass and put it inside the ride goalpost after his initial shot got blocked
  • Josiah Fleming (San Antonio, TX / Monticello) notched his first career goal at 83:51 to tie the game and sent it to overtime
  • Just one minute into overtime, Christensen scored what everyone thought was the game-winner, but a late whistle waived off due to being offside
  • Lentine then notched the golden goal in the 95th minute
