HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Randolph-Macon controlled the first half, outshooting the Tigers 10-1, but Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) stood tall in goal, making all seven of his saves in the opening 45.
  • The Tiger halftime adjustments proved effective as they led off the second half aggressive on offensive and it paid off when a Yellow Jacket defender took down an H-SC player in the box, resulting in a Costin Gregory (Raleigh, NC / Sanderson) penalty kick goal at 53:43.
  • In the 62nd minute, an H-SC defender returned the favor as Jack Maxey tied the game on a PK
  • Just a few minutes later, a skirmish at midfield ensued resulting in two Yellow Jackets and one Tiger being ejected, leaving the Tigers man-up 10-9 from 64:50 to the end of the game
  • Hampden-Sydney took advantage of the extra man and outshot Randolph-Macon 15-7 the remainder of the game, including a 11-2 advantage in overtime
  • The last promising scoring chance in regulation came in the 89th minute when Drew Ratliff's (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) shot went just wide left of the net
  • Hampden-Sydney had a few good looks at the goal in the first overtime but couldn't score the golden goal
  • In the 103rd minute, an H-SC shot at 102:48 was cleared away by a defender in the air just inches in front of the net
  • Following a H-SC corner kick at 106:32, the Tigers worked the offense and a pass got through the heart of the box to Turner who controlled the pass, boxed out his defender, and turned around and burying it in the back right of the net, far out of reach of the goalkeeper
