Box Score SALEM, VA – A 58-point second half enabled Roanoke College to win 104-80 over Hampden-Sydney Basketball in the regular season finale for each team. The two teams will meet again just three days from now when Roanoke comes to Hampden-Sydney for a first round matchup at 7 pm in the ODAC Tournament on Tuesday in the 9 vs. 8 matchup. The winner will go on to play #1 seeded Randolph-Macon on Friday.
The game was close throughout the first half with the game played within a five-point margin throughout the stanza. After the Tigers led 21-20 at 10:37, Roanoke grabbed the lead on the next possession and led for the rest of the half. An Ethan Humphries three-pointer with about one-minute left in the frame put the Maroons up 46-39, but a Greg Lewis (Mechanicsville, VA / Hanover) layup made it a 46-41 game going in to halftime.
The Tigers kept within striking distance in the early going of the second half, briefly trimming the deficit to 46-44 following a Lewis three-pointer on the opening possession. Roanoke went up by nine, 60-51, at 15:21, but a Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) three-point play got the Tigers within six, 62-56, a minute later. A Cameron Smith jumper pushed the Roanoke advantage to seven, but a 7-0 run by Hampden-Sydney saw them trailing just two, 65-63, at 12:0.
Roanoke was able to quell the momentum shift and kept the lead at 78-72 at 8:08. Hampden-Sydney went scoreless over the next 3:35 while Roanoke scored 14 in the span to surge ahead 92-72 with 4:45 remaining, and Hampden-Sydney would trail by at least 20 the rest of the way.
Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA / Maury) scored 20 points with six rebounds and five blocks, shooting 8-12 from the field. Murray added 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Lewis totaled 15 points. Sasha Obradovic (Belgrade, Serbia / Hawaii Prep) contributed 11 points.
Daniel Eacho led the Maroons with 22 points, one of six double-digit scorers for Roanoke, along with a game-high 12 rebounds. Seth Bradley tallied 19 points in just eight minutes of action, and Andrew Daniel added on 15 points.
Both teams shot well from the floor with Hampden-Sydney converting on 47.7% of their field goals compared to 49.3% for Roanoke. H-SC made seven threes and shot 36.8% from beyond the arc, and Roanoke made 11 of their 24 tries for 45.8%. The Tigers struggled at the foul line with an 11-20 performance while Roanoke made 21 of their 25 attempts. Roanoke dominated the glass with a rebounding advantage of 49-26, resulting in a 25-6 advantage in second chance points.
