Box Score EMORY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Soccer Head Coach Josh Laux earned his 100th career win on Saturday as the Tigers beat Emory & Henry 2-0. Hampden-Sydney improves to 6-4-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the ODAC, and moves up into a tie for second place in the league.
The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish as the Wasps never posed much of a scoring threat. H-SC got eight shots with three on goal in the first half but were not able to put one in net as the Wasps didn't manage a single shot in the first 45 minutes. H-SC kept up the pressure in the second half and it eventually paid off. In the 67th minute, Josiah Fleming (San Antonio, TX/Monticello) sent a pass ahead on the right side to Ryan Turner (Raleigh, NC/Sanderson) who shot it across the face of the goal and into the back of the net to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Turner scored again at 78:22 on a shot from outside the box on the right side to put the Tigers up 2-0. The Wasps managed just two shots the rest of the half with only one coming on goal.
H-SC outshot E&H 17-3 with a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal as the defense was dominant throughout the contest. The Tigers also earned six corner kicks while holding the Wasps to none. Didier Grillet made eight saves in net for the host team.
Hampden-Sydney has a quick turnaround as they travel to Averett University in Danville, Virginia, on Tuesday for a 4 pm game.
