Soccer Battles Randolph to a 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney Soccer and Randolph College battled out a 0-0 double overtime draw on Wednesday night, each earning a point in the ODAC standings. Hampden-Sydney now sits at 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the ODAC while Randolph is 5-2-2 and 2-1-1.

In a matchup of two strong defenses, each team still managed to get several good scoring chances, but often times the goalkeeper came up with a big save or a defender was able to block the shot or get a foot on the ball just before a shot was able to be taken. Quite possibly the best chance came from Hampden-Sydney in the 67th minute. Ryan Turner (Raleigh, NC / Sanderson) got control on a crossing pass with the goalie out of position and fired off a shot, but Blake Heatherly was there to clear it out of the box.

The WildCats outshot the Tigers 20-12 but took numerous low percentage shots from deep range. Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) notched a season-high nine saves while CJ Stevens made two. Randolph drew 10 corner kicks compared to four for H-SC.

The Tigers will seek to earn Head Coach Josh Laux's 100th career win on Saturday as the squad travels to Emory & Henry College on Saturday for a 5:30 pm match.
