Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney scored four goals, three in the second half, on Saturday night to defeat visiting Shenandoah 4-0 in ODAC play.
The Tigers threatened early and often but couldn't manage to get a goal as Rodrigo Casteriana had a few nice saves to keep the Tigers at bay. The Tigers struck gold in the 40th minute when Bryan Talbert (Seaford, VA / York) was awarded a penalty kick. Casteriana guessed the wrong direction on the save attempt to put Hampden-Sydney up 1-0 going into intermission.
Hampden-Sydney wasted no time in the second half when Bo Burns (Raleigh, NC / Leesville Road) crossed the ball from near the right sideline to the left side of the box where Robert Stephens (Williamsburg, VA / Lafayette) headed it into the far right post for the goal. Just a little over five minutes later, Robert Kerby (Hampton, VA / Kecoughtan) beat his defender one on one on the right side of the field and sent his shot bouncing in off the left post. Burns closed out the game with a goal, courtesy of a Kerby pass, at 72:41.
The Tigers outshot the Hornets 25-4 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Hampden-Sydney has a quick turnaround as the Tigers will host Lynchburg College on Tuesday at 7 pm.
