Marymount Squeaks Past H-SC Soccer

Box Score

ARLINGTON, VA - Marymount's Ahmed Elmanialawy notched the game-winning header goal off a corner kick in the 74th minute as the Saints squeaked past Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

Neither team was able to get much going on offense this afternoon as the two squads combined for just 16 shots and nine shots on goal. A big game-changer came in the early going as Bryan Talbert (Seaford, VA / York) was issued a red card at 28:19, leading to the Tigers being a man-down the rest of the contest. Talbert will also have to miss the Tiger's next game on Wednesday at Washington & Lee. Talbert, a player that is rarely even yellow carded, received his red card after he had been kicked in the face and did nothing malicious or retaliatory in return.

Despite playing a man down, the Tigers still managed to outshoot the Saints the rest of the way. They even had three breakaway opportunities, and H-SC got off three shots on goal in the last ten minutes. At the end of the day, having to play man down for over 60 minutes was too big of a burden to overcome.

Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) notched four saves while Leo Kowalski (Curitiba, Brazil / Deep Run / Virginia Commonwealth) recorded four shots. Logan Cropper subbed in goal in the first half and went on to make four saves in just over 61 minutes of action. H-SC outshot Marymount 10-6 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers return to the field on Wednesday for a 4:30 pm ODAC contest at Washington & Lee. Live stats and video are available here.
