BRIDGEWATER, VA - Bridgewater (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) turned back a late comeback attempt by Tiger Basketball to come away with a 65-57 win at home against Hampden-Sydney (4-3, 0-1 ODAC).

The Tigers opened up scoring the first five points of the contest, but Bridgewater went on an 11-2 run over four minutes to take a 11-7 lead. The game was back and forth throughout the first half, but the Eagles managed to lead for most of the rest of the stanza and went into halftime up 34-30.

H-SC trailed just 36-34 with 19:09 left, but Hampden-Sydney was held without a field goal until the 12:37 mark when the Tigers found themselves down 48-38. Stephen Vassor (Roanoke Rapids, NC / Brunswick (VA)) got the lead down to single digits on the next possession with a layup at 12:15, but Bridgewater pushed it out to 11, 53-42, off a Tavis Stapleton free throw at 7:59. Greg Lewis (Mechanicsville, VA / Hanover) and Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) scored the next five points to trim the lead to 53-47, but a layup and free throw from Ed Reddick helped curb momentum to put Bridgewater up 56-47 with 6:17 to go.

The Tigers scored six of the next eight points to trail just 58-55 at the 3:26 mark but went without a points until 53 seconds left. Luckily, the H-SC defense limited the Eagles to just two points in that stretch. Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA / Maury) was fouled and made two free throws with 57 seconds left on the clock to make it a 60-57 contest. On Bridgewater's next possession, Ed Reddick scored a layup to go up five with 33 seconds to go. Hampden-Sydney missed a three-pointer on their possession, and Aaron Adams secured the win with a rebound and two free throws.

Williamson had game-highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds as he made 7 of his 11 free throw attempts. Tavis Stapleton led Bridgewater with 15 points while Ronnie Thomas and Ed Reddick each chipped in with 11 points.

H-SC shot just 37.7% for the game and 16.7% from three while Bridgewater connected on 49% of their field goal attempts and was 20% from three. Each team struggled from the charity stripe as H-SC made 14-of-22 compared to 15-of-28 for BC. H-SC dominated the glass to the tune of a 42-29 advantage. Turnovers proved to be the difference maker as Hampden-Sydney had 18 and Bridgewater just seven, resulting in a 22-6 Bridgewater advantage in points off turnovers.
