Soccer Falls to #17/#25 Randolph College

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA - Hampden-Sydney Soccer fell 3-1 on the road at #17/#25 Randolph College on Wednesday.

Hampden-Sydney got a prime scoring opportunity within the first minute but a Randolph defender deflected the ball off a Tiger and out of bounds. Randolph controlled the time of possession throughout the game and got off several shots early but could no get on board until the 20th minute when Joe Skaja scored off the rebound of a blocked shot. Hampden-Sydney nearly notched the equalizer shortly before halftime, but Bryan Talbert's (Seaford, VA / York) header shot went off the crossbar and out.

The game changing play came early in the second half when Randolph's Corey Sindle was taken down by goalkeeper Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) just outside the box. The referees red carded McFarlane, leaving the Tigers down one man and with backup Blake Carrey (Richmond, VA / Deep Run) manning the net. Sindle curved in the direct kick around the right of the wall to put Randolph up 2-0 at 49:10. Kyle Unruh added on a third score in the 75th minute. Leo Kowalski (Curitiba, Brazil / Deep Run) put the Tigers on the scoreboard at 84:34 when he curled in a corner kick.

McFarland recorded six saves while Carrey had two. Randolph outshot H-SC 23-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. The WildCats also earned 11 corner kicks to two for the Tigers.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday for a 4 pm game at Eastern Mennonite.
