Tiger Soccer Pounces on Emory & Henry

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The Hampden-Sydney Soccer team scored three goals in each half to take down the Emory & Henry Wasps 6-0 on Friday night.

The Tigers threatened with several near goals in the early going but came up just wide each time. H-SC broke through in the 23rd minute when Davis Carter (Charlotte, NC / Myers Park) headed in a Bryan Talbert (Seaford, VA / York) corner kick. At 36:31, Costin Gregory (Raleigh, NC / Sanderson) sent in a cross from the left endline, and Talbert redirected it into the right of the goal. Leo Kowalski (Curitiba, Brazil / Deep Run) finished the scoring in the first half off a Johnny Curran (Salem, VA / Emory & Henry College) assist in the 44th minute.

Carter, with an assist from Josiah Fleming (San Antonio, TX / Monticello), posted his second header goal of the contest at 71:47. Kurt Anderson (Alexandria, VA / Episcopal) posted another tally at 77:17, and Bryce Jones (Waldorf, MD / Westlake) finished off an Andrew Sperr (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Catholic) pass in the 86th minute to close out the scoring.

Hampden-Sydney outshot Emory & Henry 27-8 and had a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. Joe Kedanis made eight saves for the Wasps while Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, CT / South Kent) and Blake Carrey (Richmond, VA / Deep Run) combined for the shutout with four saves. H-SC dominated the corner kick stat, taking 11 compared to just one for E&H.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Randolph College on Wednesday for a 7 pm contest. The WildCats are ranked 21st in the latest NSCAA Top 25 Poll.
