Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA - Lynchburg College scored four straight unanswered goals to claim their second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Soccer Championship 5-1 on Saturday night from Shellenberger Field. Hampden-Sydney ends their season with an 8-9-3 record but also made their second ODAC Championship game in team history.
LC's Jordan Clark posted the first goal of the game in the ninth minute off a Shane Spanninger corner kick. The Tigers responded less than three minutes later when Chris Whiteside (Virginia Beach, VA/Frank W. Cox) buried his shot into the right of the goal and far out of the reach of Lynchburg keeper Michael Releford as Nick DeProspero (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) earned the assist.
The backbreaking goals came in the 35 and 37th minute when Ryan Renfro gained control of two rebounded shots and sent the ball into the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game heading into halftime. The Hornets got their final goals from Donald Hart III in the 65th minute and Michael Abbonizio at the 68:15 mark.
John Robert Plyler (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park), Jackson Parker (Raleigh, NC/Sanderson), and Andrew Berg (Aberdeen, Scotland/International School of Aberdeen) were named to the ODAC All-Tournament team. Plyler recorded seven saves and finishes his career ranked second in H-SC history in saves (288) and shutouts (23). Michael Releford made six saves in net. LC held a decisive 28-13 advantage in shots while the Tigers had six corner kicks to five for Lynchburg.
