EMORY, VA - The Hampden-Sydney College Tigers soccer team dispatched of the Emory & Henry College Wasps 3-1 on the road in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday night. The win gives the Tigers their third consecutive victory and guarantees the Tigers a berth to the ODAC Tournament.

H-SC battled hard and pressed the Wasps for all 90 minutes. The Tigers overwhelmed E&H in the air and connected on many great passing sequences. Additionally, senior captain Sam Turner (Richmond, VA/Benedictine) returned to the starting lineup after suffering a sprained MCL sustained in the Mary Washington game, and his impact was greatly felt as he directed the defense. 

Corey Hall put the Wasps on board in the 19th minute as he converted on a Jarrett Culbreth pass. Bryan Wharton (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) evened up the game shortly before halftime by converting a penalty kick at the 43:29 mark. With the game tied 1-1, John Robert Plyler (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) denied Emory & Henry on their own penalty kick attempt.

In the 62nd minute, a Nick DeProspero (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) corner kick led to a Curran Blackwell (Wilson, NC/Greenfield) goal off an Andrew Berg (Aberdeen, Scotland/International School of Aberdeen)touch pass. Bryan Talbert (Seaford, VA/York) tallied the insurance goal at 86:01 as he buried a header shot off a DeProspero free kick.

Daniel Mills had a strong game in the net for Emory & Henry as he recorded eight saves while the team had 10 total due to two saves by Wasp defenders, and Plyler made three stops. Blackwell led H-SC with nine shots and five on goal. H-SC outshot E&H 27-7 and had a 13-4 edge in shots on goal. The Tigers recorded 12 corner kicks to just two for the Wasps while Emory & Henry posted 14 fouls to eight for Hampden-Sydney.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Roanoke College on Tuesday in a game that will determine their seeding for the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Several different scenarios are possible with the Tigers being able to finish anywhere from as high as a tie for fourth in the standings to as low as eighth.  Live video and live statistics will be available.
