HAMPDEN-SYDNEY OUTSCORES EMORY AND HENRY, 137-109

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (December 1, 2007)�Hampden-Sydney�s basketball team improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as the Tigers scored a 137-109 victory over Emory and Henry on Saturday afternoon at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. The Tigers shot 67.4 percent from field and 66.7 percent from three-point range, making 4-of-6 shots from behind-the-arc to defeat the Wasps. Troy Kaase (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) led all scorers with a career-high 30 point performance, while five other Tigers also recorded career-highs. The Tigers also set a school record with 137 points. With the loss, Emory and Henry drops to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the ODAC.

Hampden-Sydney opened the game with a 15-4 run in the first three and a half minutes of the game. The Tigers extended their lead to 15 points, 24-9, at the 14:01 mark on a three-pointer from Drew Prehmus (Atlanta, GA/Wesleyan School). Emory and Henry answered as Josh Lee hit a three point field goal to cut the lead to 12 points, 24-12, but The Tigers continued to increase their lead, holding a 68-38 advantage at halftime.

The second half was much of the same as Hampden-Sydney was able to maintain their large lead through the entire 20 minutes. Hampden-Sydney held it's largest lead, 123-87, after aTyler Murray (Atlanta, GA/Harrison) lay-up at the 4:32 mark. The Wasps went on a 14-2 over the next two minutes to cut into the Tiger lead to 24 points, 125-101, but that was as close as the Wasps would get as Hampden-Sydney went on to capture the 137-109 victory.

Hampden-Sydney had five players score in double figures, led by Kaase with 30 points and seven rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Hampden-Sydney was sophomore Turner King (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) who scored a career-high 26 points, while juniorByron Lawton (High Point, NC/Wesleyan Academy) added a career-high 19 points. Murray and Prehmus finished with 24 and 12 points respectively. Murray finished with a game and career-high nine assists. Emory and Henry was led by Robert Hudson who scored 21 points, while Jarell Christian added 19 points. Kyle Huckins and Josh Lee scored 15 points each.

The Tigers shot 67.4 (58-of-86) percent from the field, including 66.7 (4-of-6) percent from behind-the-arc and 60.7 (17-of-28) percent from the charity stripe, while Emory and Henry ended up at 47.6 percent from the field and just 24.2 percent from three-point range. The Tigers out-rebounded the Wasps, 50-30.
