CAPTAINS DEFEAT TIGERS WITH STRONG SECOND HALF

(September 13, 2006) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA -- After a competitive first half, Christopher Newport (3-2) proved to be too much for the Tigers in the second half, winning by a score of 5-1. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 3-1-1 on the season.

Christopher Newport scored first as midfielder Derek Shaw recorded an unassisted goal. Hampden-Sydney's Ian Ciejek (Richmond, VA/ Mills E. Godwin) answered with a goal of his own with 12:58 left in the first half. Ciejek's goal was assisted by Will Robertson (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) and Michael Krewinghaus (Yorktown, VA/Tabb). The game remained tied through halftime; however, the Captains proved to be too much as they scored four second half goals to beat the Tigers. Christopher Newport's game winning goal was scored by Brian Tweed and assisted by Daniel Fogarty in the 54th minute.

The Hampden-Sydney soccer team will take its game on the road as they travel to Washington, D.C. on Sunday, September 17, to take on Catholic University. The game is set to start at 2:30 pm.
