HAMPDEN-SYDNEY SOCCER BLANKED AGAINST W&L

(September 24, 2005) LEXINGTON, VA – The Generals of Washington & Lee University shutout the Hampden-Sydney Tigers by a score of 4-0 in Saturday's ODAC conference game at Alston Parker Watt Field. The Tigers loss drops them to 1-2 in the ODAC and to 4-4-1 overall. The first shutout win for the Generals was earned on the weekend of their homecoming and improves their record to 2-1 in the ODAC and 4-2 overall.

The first goal for Washington & Lee came as a result of an unassisted header by sophomore Jack Palmer in the thirteenth minute of play. Palmer would also score in the second half on a penalty kick. Travis Short and Kyle Garcia were credited with the other two goals for Washington & Lee. Tiger Head Coach Josh Laux readily admitted that, "We did not come ready to play today... that was quite obvious in the first half."

Due to injuries, the Tigers started four freshmen in the back. In total, 13 freshmen played in the loss. "I'm hoping that our team understands the competitive level of play in our conference games. They need to know that every game could potentially be tougher than the last one," stated Coach Laux.

The Tigers play their next game this Tuesday against Randolph-Macon College on September 27, 2005 at 4:00 pm.
