CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT EDGES HAMPDEN-SYDNEY 1-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA (September 13, 2005)-   The Tigers of Hampden-Sydney (3-2-1) dropped a close match to the Captains of Christopher Newport University (3-2) by a score of 1-0.  In a game that was marred by nine total yellow cards, the Tigers surrendered what turned out to be the winning goal at 43:22 in the first half.

During the scoring sequence, CNU's Matt Page was standing on the goal line near the far post behind Tigers goalkeeper Ben Marchetti (Richmond,VA/Benedictine) as Daniel Fogarty centered a pass in the box.  Fortunately for Christopher Newport, Kyle Allen  chipped the Fogarty pass to an awaiting Page who was credited for the score.

Christopher Newport University out shot Hampden-Sydney, 15-5 and controlled the ball for most of the first half.  The second half saw a more balanced game from both teams and Coach Laux lamented, "I don't feel that we played well enough to win but we definitely didn't deserve to lose."

The Tigers see their first conference action this Saturday against Eastern Mennonite at 3:30 pm. Coach Laux commented on the upcoming road game, "I hope a loss like this makes our guys come out even hungrier for the conference opener."
