TIGERS SOCCER STUNG BY YELLOW JACKETS 5-0

ASHLAND, VA – Hampden-Sydney's soccer squad received their third Old Dominion Athletic Conference loss from Randolph-Macon College 5-0. The Tiger's record slips to 0-3-1 in the conference and 2-7-1 overall while R-MC moves to 1-1-1 in the ODAC and 6-2-1 for the season. Despite the 5-0 display on the scoreboard, there was a battle between two long-time rivals which remained close for most of the game until Randolph-Macon scored three of their goals in the last 17 minutes of play. The Yellow Jackets led 1-0 at the half on a goal from junior Matt Cooper (Edgewood, MD/John Carroll).

Hampden-Sydney had a chance to tie the game early in the second half, but Randolph-Macon goalkeeper Nick Warner (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) got a hand on the ball, deflecting yet another shot off the post and out of bounds.

Randolph-Macon junior Paulo Garcia (Cali, Coluombia/Christchurch) capitalized on a loose ball for the Jackets second goal at 50:10. Tiger goalkeeper Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville) blocked the first R-MC shot but could not recover in time for Garcia's.

With 17 minutes remaining, R-MC sophomore forward Greg Ridout (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) scored back to back goals putting the game out of reach for Hampden-Sydney. Junior David Tait (Nokesville, VA/Brentsville) scored the final goal at 81:26 for a final score of 5-0.

Randolph-Macon out shot the Tigers 15-6 as well as having a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Roanoke on Saturday, October 2 for a 2 pm start and then returns home to face 2003 ODAC Champion Virginia Wesleyan on October 6 at 4 pm.
