LYNCHBURG, VA – Hampden-Sydney College soccer squad dropped their second Old Dominion Athletic Conference game to Lynchburg College 1-0. The Tigers record slips to 0-2 in the conference and 2-6 for the season. A very physical first half led to two yellow cards and a fired up Hampden-Sydney team. H-SC attacked the Lynchburg defense creating multiple opportunities on an open net, but they were unable to capitalize as one shot hit the goal post and multiple shots sailed inches wide. The Tigers went into the break frustrated with a 0-0 score.
After multiple diving saves by Hampden-Sydney goalkeeper Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville) and an incredible effort by the Tiger defense, the ball found its way to Lynchburg's Greg Smith (Bedford, VA) who finished what would be the game winning goal at 70:46.
Hampden-Sydney had the advantage on corner kicks 4-3, but Lynchburg put eight of their 12 shots on goal while the Tigers put just 3-9 on goal.
Hampden-Sydney returns to Miller Field on Saturday, September 25 to host Washington & Lee on family weekend. Game time is scheduled for 11 am followed by the Tiger football game at 1 pm vs. Guilford.
