Hampden-Sydney Soccer Falls To Eastern Mennonite, 2-1

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney's soccer team dropped their first ODAC game to Eastern Mennonite University 2-1. The Tigers start 0-1 in conference play while their overall record slips to 2-5 for the season. Hampden-Sydney jumped out to an early lead scoring off a beautiful give and go play between senior defender Michael Kraemer (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and senior forward Bobby Hillmann (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road). Kraemer got credit for his first goal of the season while Hillmann added his first assist.

The score remained 1-0 until 40:16 when EMU's Joel Shank (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from teammate Andrew Moore (Telford, Pa/Christopher Dock). The score remained tied at one heading into the half.

Eastern Mennonite struck again at 65:18 as HSC's goalkeeper Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville) made a diving save but could not recover in time to stop Alex Wildeson (Yorktown, Va/York) from scoring what would be the game winning goal. Eastern Mennonite starts off 1-0 in the conference and evens up their overall record to 3-3-1.

EMU put 12 of its 17 shots on goal while the Tigers put 7 shots on goal, not including two that went off the crossbar, and 16 total shots for the game. Hampden-Sydney had only two corner kicks compared to EMU's six. Hampden-Sydney goalkeeper Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville), despite the loss, had an impressive 10 saves.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Lynchburg on Wednesday September 22 for a 4 pm start in their second ODAC game. The Tigers then return home for Family Weekend on Saturday September 25 to take on Washington & Lee at 11 am.
