MURFREESBORO, NC (September 3, 2003)—Hampden-Sydney's soccer team improved its season mark to 3-0 with a 6-2 victory over Chowan College on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Pat Whitehead (Williamsburg, VA/Walsingham Academy) led the Tiger barrage with two goals as H-SC out-shot Chowan, 45-7.
Chowan scored bookend goals to the six Hampden-Sydney scored as the Braves got on the scoreboard early with a goal in the ninth minute from Gabriel Cintron, then finished the scoring with a goal in the 87th minute by David Sheehan.
In between, Hampden-Sydney's offense was impressive, firing off a season-high 45 shots en route to the overwhelming victory. Whitehead started the scoring in the 40th minute of action, taking assists from Chris Moxley (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) and Brian Goeckerman (Raleigh, NC/Wake-Forest Rolesville).
